"i'm sorry." he says; he almost sounds genuine.
"we're all sorry." i say, "for example, i'm sorry
that i woke up this morning."
his shy smile twists until it resembles something
that could be considered a frown, or even a grimace.
i guess i feel guilty; i also guess i'm pretty good
at sounding almost genuine.
